Emboldened by a reply from Stio’s CEO, I emailed other Wyoming business leaders about Cody Roberts. This requires some googling and guessing email addresses.
Below is a slightly modified version of my original email and the one I will use going forward.
Dear [ CEO ],
I recently exchanged emails with Stephen Sullivan, Founder/CEO of Stio, regarding the now infamous Cody Roberts incident — in which Mr. Roberts injured a wolf with a snowmobile and then paraded her at the Green River bar before finally ending her suffering. Mr. Sullivan assured me that Cody Roberts is a “bad apple” and not representative of the average Wyoming resident. If he is right, business leaders have an opportunity to lead by example.
As one of the largest companies in Wyoming, [company name] should take a proactive stance on Wyoming’s disgraceful treatment of wolves and other animals in the designated “predator zone”.
Pressure from business leaders like you could lead to real change instead of feeble efforts at minor reform. As you may be aware, the Predator Working group consisting of Wyoming legislators was created to address Mr. Roberts’s act of abject cruelty. These lawmakers are focusing on modifying legal language to prevent the prolonged suffering of a live animal. However, they are NOT addressing enforcement, lack of punishment, or the use of motorized vehicles to run over wildlife. Ethical hunters do not utilize snowmobiles nor do they prolong suffering. Only a handful of states, including Wyoming, allow this cruel method. At this point, the lack of substantive action by Wyoming legislators highlights the urgent need for influential business leaders to step forward.
By championing better wildlife management policies, business leaders can drive significant positive changes that reflect the true values of Wyoming.
Your support in this area not only aligns with ethical business practices but also contributes to a broader movement towards a more compassionate and responsible society.
Thank you for considering this important issue.
